A cellphone on board is also highly recommended. ![]() When driving in this area be aware that services may not be immediately available-be sure to carry plenty of water and food in case of any delay or excursion. Our drive back to our hotel along Lake Mead (SR 167) was also quite captivating. There was way more to see than we had time to look-we were in that park for only a few hours but we left with a load of photographs and vivid memories. If I didn't know better I would have sworn I was on Mars-the stark, red rock landscape coupled with dry vegetation enhanced that impression. We entered this park from the west (I-15/exit 75) and exited from the east on southbound State Route 167 (It's roughly a 2-3 hour round trip drive without getting out of the car, but don't do that!!). My wife, sister in law & I took an early morning drive from our hotel (Best Western-McCarran Inn) to the Valley of Fire State Park on the last Saturday of January 2018. This isn't a big deal but it does tend to cause vehicles to bunch together once traffic resumes. There's a good chance you'll end up stuck behind a roadblock for five or ten minutes during filming or whatever. As others have mentioned, a lot of TV and movie filming is done on the premises. There are only three spots within the park that claim to have coverage – the two entrances and the White Domes Area. It must be very hot during the summer months. I visited in mid-October and enjoyed a nice, warm day in the low-80s. ![]() The Visitor Center sells bottled water along with a small selection of sodas and has a fill-your-own water bottle station. The two I hiked were incredibly scenic and not difficult at all. And the guide at the Visitor Center can advise you of others. It is depicted in the official park literature and is often. There are numerous hiking trails that are listed on the brochure you receive upon entry. Elephant Rock is one of the more accessible and memorable features in Valley of Fire State Park. There are eighteen miles of roads to drive and enough hiking to keep you busy for days! Be sure to stop at the Visitor Center to stock up on information. Ten dollars per car (daily-use fee) gets you into the park. The majority is easy interstate followed by a scenic drive along a 2-lane road that's a teaser of what's to come. Valley of Fire is about an hour North of Las Vegas. The others are good but this is by far my favorite. We highly encourage bringing lots of water and reusable water bottles (link to check the price) to refill at the visitor center when needed.Wow! Valley of Fire State Park is hands-down the best outdoor park to visit in the Las Vegas area. In addition, there is a visitors center within the park that features souvenirs, restrooms, water refill areas and a help desk, where you can see which trails are open (some trails may be closed due to extreme heat). There are restrooms located at the Elephant Rock parking lot. In addition, please refrain from trying to climb the structure. ![]() Do not feed any wildlife or leave any trash. Whatever you take in, be sure to take out. Please remember to follow the Leave No Trace Principles whenever you are out enjoying nature. It is important to stay on the designated trail and watch for scorpions and snakes. If you want a longer hike, you can continue onto the Elephant Rock Loop, which connects to a section of the Old Arrowhead Road Trail. For those wanting a short hike, you can complete the out-and-back trail that is only 0.4 miles (0.6 km). You must park in the parking lot and walk over. While you can see Elephant Rock from the road, you cannot stop or park there. You are required to pay a fee at both entrances to enter the Valley of Fire State Park.Īs of November 2022, the fees are as follows: Elephant Rock is located directly past the entrance gate on the East side.
